World Leisure announces Future Strategy

World Leisure announces Future Strategy
April 3, 2009

The World Leisure Organisation (WLO) has unveiled its strategic planning initiative for the next five years.

The paper, called Leisure: Enhancing the human Condition Priorities and Strategies 2009-2014, has been framed to support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals project.

WLO has listed six priorities for its new strategy â linking to the United Nation Millennium goals; enhancing research and scholarship in leisure; advocating for leisure by creating policy statements; expanding educational opportunities; strengthening partnerships and relationships with organisations and associations; and to expand membership of the WLO in numerical and geographical terms.

The WLO aims to form a ârobustâ relationship with the United Nations and as part of the new strategy, plans to appoint a WLO representative to the United Nations Delegate Assembly.

It also unveiled plans to create a global academy for culture, sport and leisure while establishing a new classification of educational programmes focused on creating independent World Leisure Research and Development Centres.

The organisation will also undertake a membership push among policy makers and students in an attempt to boost numbers.

Formed in 1952, WLO is a non-profit, non-governmental body which aims to promote leisure as integral to social, cultural, economic and sustainable environment development.
