Tasmanian Government funds sports clubs to improve participation
November 11, 2019

The Tasmanian Government is funding 25 sport and recreation clubs from across the state with funding delivered from the first round of the 2019/20 Sport and Recreation Minor Grants Program.

The Sport and Recreation Minor Grants Program is delivered in two funding rounds and helps improve access to safe and quality participation in sport and recreation.

Total funding allocated this round is $82,418, assisting clubs to provide equipment and undertake small facility upgrades.

Some of the projects to receive funding include:

  • A finish line chute for Cradle Coast Triathlon & Multisport Inc;
  • Ground safety upgrades for Dressage Association of Tasmania;
  • Purchase of equipment by the Tasmanian Nepalese Cricket Association;
  • Resurfacing of long jump run-ups for the Huon Valley Little Athletics Centre Inc;
  • Purchase of a computerised live judging system for Surfing Tasmania Inc; and
  • Ground improvements for Wynyard Bowls and Community Club Inc.

Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation Jeremy Rockliff, notes the Tasmanian Government recognises the role that local sports clubs play in engaging people from all parts of the community and fostering community connection, by providing places to be social, active and develop skills and values.

Minister Rockliff adds “we support active participation in sport at all levels and we are committed to the goal of making Tasmania the healthiest population in Australia by 2025.”

A full list of the successful applicants will be available on the Communities Tasmania website at www.communities.tas.gov.au/csr
