Northern Territory Government opens applications for $3 million visitor experience program

Northern Territory Government opens applications for $3 million visitor experience program
March 28, 2018

With the aim to improve the tourism experiences, facilities and attractions, the Northern Territory Government has opened applications for its $3 million Visitor Experience Enhancement Program.

Part of the ‘Turbocharging Tourism’ stimulus package, the funding is available to tourism industry operators wanting to undertake projects improve on-ground visitor experiences and create more local jobs.

Eligible projects and activities may include infrastructure upgrades, additional accommodation, new technology or new signage.

The $103 million ‘Turbocharging Tourism’ stimulus package is a plan to attract more visitors, create local jobs and put more money into the local economy.

Announcing the package in February, Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner said it will deliver more marketing, new tourism infrastructure and improve existing festivals and events, stating “creating local jobs is my number one priority and this plan to turbocharge tourism is a serious show of support for local business.

“I will move heaven and earth to support Territory business during this tough economic period – that is my message to them.

“We know that spending more on tourism – including on marketing and product development – brings more people to the Territory.

“That’s more people filling seats on planes, sleeping in our hotels, eating in our restaurants, spending in our shops and going on tours. And that means more money in Territorians’ pockets”.

Applications for the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program close on 30th April 2018.
