Luna Park Sydney opens new family thrill ride

Luna Park Sydney opens new family thrill ride
March 28, 2019

Luna Park Sydney has this week launched its new family thrill ride, Volaré, a magical wave swinger overlooking Sydney Harbour.

The highest and largest ride of its type in Australia, Volaré, which takes its name from the Italian word  ‘to fly’, swing high over Luna Park, with incredible views of the water and Sydney Harbour Bridge as it spins at speeds of up to 65 km per hour.

Sydney’s first new permanent ride since the opening of Wet’n’Wild Sydney in 2013, and Luna Park’s first new permanent ride since the opening of the Hair Raiser.

Luna Park Sydney Director Warwick Doughty is thrilled to see the new ride up and running and welcomes people of all ages to come in and experience the magic of flight on Volaré.

Doughty advised “Volaré is a special addition to Sydney’s Luna Park as it was designed especially for the Sydney icon and reflects the Park’s rich history and character.”

Specially handcrafted for Luna Park Sydney by Italian ride manufacturer  Preston & Barbieri, Volaré features a display of over 3,500 LED lights while te ride’s artwork was designed with both Luna Park’s heritage and vibrant personality in mind, featuring iconic Showtime characters such as Luna Bob and Luna Belle. Luna Park Sydney’s resident artist Ashley Taylor, has also hand-painted the boarding area with images of cityscapes, clouds and a star-studded sky as people enter the ride.

The opening of Volaré has added significance because it is the first ride to open at Luna Park since the attraction’s long-term future was placed under a cloud by a ruling in the NSW Land and Environment Court in August 2018.

Thanks to the many thousands of people across NSW who supported the #SaveLunaPark campaign, late last year the NSW State Government amended the necessary planning policies to allow Luna Park to operate as a viable and successful business and remain at the heart of Sydney.

Volaré will open to the public on Sunday 24th March for the first time alongside the Park’s food stalls and other attractions.
