Former ASM Global executive voted on to Brisbane City Council

Former ASM Global executive voted on to Brisbane City Council
April 3, 2020

Former ASM Global (Asia Pacific) Communications Manager, Greg Adermann has been elected as the Pullenvale Ward Councillor with the Brisbane City Council.

Adermann resigned from ASM Global in late January after being preselected by the Liberal National Party to contest the Ward, which covers more than 300 kilometres² in Brisbane western suburbs.

Final counting will continue until next Tuesday but Adermann leads the primary vote comfortably and is winning the postal vote count. The distribution of preferences will occur after the completion of the primary vote count but respected ABC political analyst, Antony Green predicts Adermann will win 60% to 40% against his Greens opponent.

When contacted this week, Adermann was elated with his win, but sympathised with his former colleagues in the venue management industry currently dealing with the shutdown of sport and entertainment events as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Adermann advised "l’ll miss working in such a great industry and for a fantastic company in ASM Global, particularly Harvey Lister and Rod Pilbeam, and I wish them every success in the future.

"But at the same time, I find myself entering public life at the most challenging time imaginable and my immediate job is to work with Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner in assisting in Brisbane's recovery.

"I am excited to be representing the part of Brisbane I've called home for the past 28 years and being able to make a meaningful contribution to our quality of life going forward.”

Speaking when Adermann was endorsed as a candidate last year, Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner stated "Greg is a very experienced local resident out in the western suburbs in the Pullenvale community, I know he will bring experience to the team.”

Adermann, who on his Twitter profile describes himself as being "passionate about all things to do with sport, music and politics and President of the Bring Back Mike Hussey lobby group", received Australasian Leisure Management's Communications Executive Award (Industry) at the 2017 Australian Leisure Industry Communication and Marketing Awards.
