read moreFitness Australia are urging Australians to stay active during the current period of isolation resulting from COVID-19, with their ‘Keep on Moving’ community awareness campaign.
A new website has been launched today at keeponmoving.fitness.org.au, which provides all Australian’s with direct access to virtual workouts from Fitness Australia’s partners and members, as well as a directory of Registered PTs delivering permitted outdoor (and online) one-on-one training and all the latest tips and information on keeping active.
Fitness Australia Chief Executive, Barrie Elvish, said that the campaign was created to ensure as many Australians as possible remain active and come out on the other side of the COVID-19 crisis with their health and wellbeing intact, which is why industry partners have included lots of free workouts.
Elvish noted “change is a tricky thing to navigate at the best of times, but it’s more important than ever we prioritise our health and wellbeing during this period of uncertainty.
“Keeping active and practicing a regular exercise routine is a great way for people across the country to keep their physical and mental health in good shape, especially as isolation starts to take a toll.
“Research shows that exercise promotes the release of feel-good hormones in your brain such as endorphins and serotonin, which have a plethora of benefits including reducing stress and symptoms of mental health conditions, improving sleep, and giving you more energy.”
Elvish advised it was important for everyone to continue to follow the government’s social distancing laws when exercising while also ensuring they keep their personal safety top of mind when working out at home.
“As the fitness sector continues to adapt to only delivering virtual classes and one-on-one outdoor workouts, Fitness Australia’s ‘Keep on Moving’ campaign allows all Australian’s to access professional fitness guidance and training to ensure they can safely workout to remain active in the comfort of their own home,” Elvish added.
“We don’t want anyone to attempt new workouts without professional guidance or feel like they can’t access advice from a registered personal trainer or gym operator. There are so many options out there for people, regardless of their fitness ability or age and the ‘Keep on Moving’ Campaign is about bringing all of that together in one place.
Elvish highlighted that “with many children now at home and usual Easter holidays approaching, it’s a great time for families to play and exercise together. Make it fun, turn on some music, set up an obstacle course in the backyard or do Yoga in the lounge room. Even with the current social distancing restrictions, households are still encouraged to exercise together.”
In addition to industry financial support, the campaign will see the national fitness body use funds raised via their Go Fund Me campaign to develop and share resources to assist Australian’s in keeping fit, active and healthy during these difficult times.
