Revealed at the 2014 Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) National Conference in Cairns this week, the initiative aims to significantly increase opportunities for connecting fitness, parks and recreation professionals across Australia.
With Fitness Australia’s Business Development Manager Phillip Hazlett and Strategic Projects and Partnerships Manager Andrew McCallum each having made presentations at the PLA National Conference, Fitness Australia has been able to highlight its capacity to assist local government in developing fair and equitable policies for the delivery of commercial fitness on public land.
Hazlett’s presentation highlighting Fitness Australia’s recent successes in overcoming a proposed fee structure for Victorian Crown land which would have resulted in up to a tenfold increase in permit fees for commercial fitness service providers.
Being held at the Cairns Convention Centre from Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th August, the PLA National Conference is being attended by in excess of 300 predominantly local government representatives from across Australia and New Zealand.
With the theme ‘Communicate, Cooperate and Collaborate’ the event highlights the role the parks and recreation plays in protecting the Australian way of life and the wellbeing of all Australians through good policy, planning and provision.
