read moreAs part of their new membership plans, fitness club group Cityfitness is relaunching its brand as not only a gym but as a total fitness solution, with the release of a new mobile application membership package.
The new cityfitness membership package offers users of all fitness levels tailor-made nutrition and workout plans complete with the standard gym membership offering. Exercise routines can be accessed and tracked anywhere using mobile apps while a detailed profile can be set up online giving user's access to 100s of training programmes and the cityfitness online community.
Besides nutrition and exercise tracking the cityfitness platform offers progress tracking of values like weight, BMI, fat percentage and provides motivation through over 250 badges, which can be earned. The cityfitness application is an open platform, which supports third party products like body weight scales and activity monitors.
Introducing the new membership concept, cityfitness Chief Operating Officer Doug Hatten says "for some time we have been looking at ways to approach the market in a more unique way and provide a complete health and fitness solution rather than just a standard gym offering. The development of our online app is one initiative we're launching to do this and we are extremely excited about it.
"The exclusive cityfitness application provides fitness buffs of all levels access to a range of exercises and activities, while targeting a specific weight, BMI or heart rate. It also offers a community, where members exchange experiences and can compete with each other all this along with access to over 21 cityfitness clubs nationwide.
"There are currently no other gyms offering a membership that provides such a complete solution and there probably won't be for quite some time given the scale of the cityfitness platform."
This isn't the first time the New Zealand gym chain has challenged the traditional gym business model. In July 2012 the group cityfitness introduced a more 'garage' style training approach to its core fitness offerings with their roll out of Training Zones across select clubs. The Training Zones are a separate user pays area of the gym and incorporate three fitness programmes; TRX Suspension Training, Boxmaster and CrossFit. The move was a groundbreaking one given that programmes such as CrossFit are rarely housed in a gym.
In addition, late in 2010 cityfitness opened the first Hot Yoga and Pilates studio within an established gym; Abundance Mind Body Studio, in their flagship Porirua club. They have since opened Abundance studios in three other locations across the country.
Hatten adds "our focus is on being fit and healthy for life, not on looks and image, which is why we feel strongly about diversifying our fitness offering and providing a complete solution for everybody.
"We're aware of the great leaps and bounds in technology over the past few years and we know that Smartphones are becoming a more integral part of everyday life. We wanted to be there to support our members in that area."
cityfitness is a New Zealand based, family owned company beginning with one club in Porirua in 2000 and has steadily grown to 21 clubs nationwide over the last 12 years.
The cityfitness group is one of the country's most progressive health and fitness businesses, building a reputation on their high level of customer service, facilities, equipment and member support. cityfitness clubs offer a wide range of amenities, including: personal training, group fitness, indoor cycling and 'state of the art' strength and cardio equipment.
